This is a virgin growth forest Cypress bowl. It is commonly called “Sinker Cypress” because these trees were logged over 120 years ago in various places in the Southeast and they sunk to the bottom of the rivers they were being transported on (or floated down). There they stayed until recently when various operations have begun to retrieve them from the bottom and process them. This one came from a river in the Lowlands not too far from Myrtle Beach SC. The grain is very beautiful and the growth rings are extremely close together. The heart wood is a grey green and the sap wood is a honey golden brown color. The finish is multiple coats of gloss lacquer buffed to a mirror finish.
